“Five out of every six students, white and BAME, have heard racist comments or seen racist behaviour in school.” It is a widely known fact that workplaces all over the world are stained with racism, but it is problematic that this also exists in schools. In the UK there have been recent reports ranging from homework asking students to list the benefits of slavery, schools banning dreadlocks and braiding hairstyles, to suspending a student because they questioned the importance of Remembrance Day. Given that these educational institutes are the stepping stones of a person’s early life, isn’t it that it should be here where everyone can thrive, and the environment is truly inclusive to allow this?
