Berlin’s transport system issued a gender specific ticket on the 18th March 2019 which allowed women to ride the metro, buses, or trams at a fee reduced by 21%. Seems unfair? In Germany, women earn 21% less than men, on average. And to bring this imbalance to light, the transport system of Berlin has reduced prices for women to mark ‘Equal Pay Day’ and to reflect “what women are up against every day”. It’s time to get the balance right all over the world, and what a great way to draw attention to this! Do steps like these really help elevate the issue?
